Established in 2017 to honor the late Jim Hayter, a charter member of the Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Associaon (CVFSA). Chief Hayter was also a firefighter with the Alvinston, Ontario Fire Department for 44 years, 15 of which he served as Fire Chief. In additon to his dedicaton to the Fire Services, Chief Hayter was extremely actve in the community including serving as Deputy Mayor.
Eligible applicants are current firefighters or dependent children of current firefighters who are pursuing their goal of higher education under the age of 25.
Applicants must be in process or have been accepted at an accredited university or college to pursue a course of study which will lead to a recognized degree. The award which shall be given to one applicant per year: $1,500.00. The awarding of the scholarship will be based on the involvement of the applicant with their school and community and also the academic standing of the applicant.
