Senior Firefighter – Casual
Kananaskis Emergency Services is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic team players to fulfil the role of Senior Firefighter within the organization. Reporting to the Duty Officer, the Senior Firefighter is responsible for all fire and rescue operations and operational assignments as provided from the Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre. This will include emergency and non-emergency operations related to fire suppression, vehicle rescue, medical first response, structural rescue, hazardous material interventions, wildland urban interface, wildland fire suppression, helicopter operations and assisting with backcountry/slope rescue. As well as routine equipment maintenance, station duties, training, and public engagement activities. Shifts are 24 hours in duration. Senior Firefighters are required to provide a minimum of 4 shifts of availability per month and work a minimum of 2 shifts per month.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School Diploma
• Accredited NFPA 1001 Level 2
• Accredited NFPA 1002 Driver and Pump Operator
• ICS100 minimum
• Valid Class 3Q (or higher) Alberta Operator’s License with air brake endorsement, less than 6 demerits
• Standard First Aid, CPR-BLS/HCP.
• Two (2) years of experience with a municipal fire department
Preference will be given to applicants that have completed NFPA 1002 Aerial Operator, NFPA 1140 Wildland Firefighter, Advanced First Aid/Emergency Medical Responder training, and have a demonstrated knowledge of the Kananaskis Improvement District.
Starting Wage: $22.00-$25.00/hr

Individuals selected to continue through the process will be required to provide either a CPAT or U of A Fire test (current within 6 months), driving and pumping competency evaluation, and interview. Successful candidates will be required to complete additional onboarding training and shadow shifts prior to commencing operations. Positions anticipated to start August 2025; multiple positions are available.
