S-100G Grassland Wildfire Operations
Officer Strategy and Tactics
This course is based on the foundational knowledge and skills gained in the S-100G Grassland Wildfire Operations. Whether responding as an Officer or the senior firefighter, the understanding of a wildfire situation, size up and methods of attack decided upon are crucial. This module explains in greater detail fire weather and behavior for our common fuel types, not just grass, to enable us to give our crew a better situational awareness and plan of attack. This course touches on structural protection in the interface, further wildland training options and more enhanced live fire practice.
The course consists of theory and practical scenarios giving officers and senior members skills related to size up, risk analysis, and ongoing assessment of grassland fires. An emphasis on communications to select and adjust the IAP based on the grassland environment is conducted and ensuring officers and anyone leading a crew will gain the confidence to make timely decisions and keep crews safe in the dynamic grassland environment.
