TRAINING NOTICE
NFPA 1006 Technical Rescue Rope Awareness and Operations

This 4-day course includes all the learning and skills required for NFPA 1006 (2021) Rope Rescue Awareness and Operations (Chapter 5), and exceeds the requirements outlined in NFPA 1670 (2017). Successful students will receive a certificate and completed Job Performance Requirements. Training includes:

  • Equipment familiarization / inspection and maintenance
  • Rigging Anchor Systems
  • Rigging Lowering Systems
  • Rigging Hauling Systems
  • Incident Management

Topics include sizing up a rope rescue incident, understanding principles of mechanical advantage, recognizing and isolating incident hazards, identifying resource capabilities and limitations, understanding and maintaining functions and operations of equipment, demonstrating various knots, bends, and hitches, applying rigging principles, and performing safety checks. Candidates successful in this program will be receive a written and practical exam for both NFPA levels through IFSAC and Pro Board following the Government of Alberta Fire Service Certification program.

Dates: April 14-18th 2025
Location: Walter Thomas Fire Station 1 – 10099 93 Avenue Fort Saskatchewan
Time: 0800-1630
Prerequisites: Intermediate First Aid or higher.
Maximum participants: 20 students

Cost: $450.00 includes meals and course supporting documents.

Students must purchase their own copy of the Rope Rescue Principle and Practice, Fifth Edition, Jones and Bartlet (2023)
