This course utilizes both classroom lectures and field exercises to meet the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 470 Hazardous Materials / WMD Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications.
This course focuses on the recognition of a hazardous materials emergency, personnel safety, hazard assessment, and the notification of the emergency response team using safe, practical, defensive actions.
Topics Include
• Analyze the incident
• Detect the presence of Hazardous Materials (HazMat)/Weapons of Mass Destruction
(WMD)
• Determine scope of the problem
• Plan a response
• Capabilities of Operations-level personnel
• Implement the response
• Establish Control Zones/Emergency Decontamination/Communications
• Implement protective actions
• Perform operations level tasks
• Evaluate Progress
Location: Mayerthorpe Fire Training Center 4814 – 42 Ave
Dates: March 29, 30 and April 5, 6
Testing: Awareness level written exam April 6th along with complete Practical Skills evaluation.
Operations level written exam April 16th.
Prerequisites for Course: No NFPA prerequisites, Completion of County Fire 101 or equivalent program, all required LSAC online learning.
