Please see this message from the Office of the Fire Commissioner:
Greetings Fire Service Leaders
It has come to our attention that some FSESM (Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal) medals are being sent directly to the nominator from the RCM (Royal Canadian Mint).
The usual process is as follows:
- OFC reviews applications and approves with the AB Awards Committee.
- Applications sent to Office of the Governor General (GG)
- GG reviews the applications.
- Once approved, certificates printed and sent to OFC.
- Medal production order sent to RCM.
- RCM produces medals in an order of precedence
- Once produced, they are sent to the OFC for tracking of award/certificate receipt in the awards database and for distribution to the nominators. For some reason the RCM is now sending some medals/bars directly to the nominator without a certificate because the certificate was previously sent to the OFC.
- Many departments are then contacting the GG for a certificate when in fact it is in our office waiting for the award.
***The OFC is asking that if any departments receive a medal directly from the RCM, to please contact our office ([email protected]) immediately to notify us and check if the certificate is with us. Please DO NOT contact the GG office first.
