Training Opportunity - ISFSI Understanding & Fighting Basement Fires, County of GP

The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service is very excited to offer the International Society of Fire Service Instructors Understanding and Fighting Basement Fires Class. This is only the 2nd time the class has been offered in Canada. This 1 day classroom theory based program will be held on Saturday March 16th from 0800-1700 at Evergreen Park – Clarkson Hall in the County of Grande Prairie. Registration is a flat fee of $100 per person, which will be invoiced to departments at the conclusion of the class. Lunch, coffee and snacks will be provided. The ISFSI “Understanding and Fighting Basement Fires” program is one of the most talked-about educational experiences in the fire service today.

Basement fires present a significant hazard and make tactical choices a challenge for even the most seasoned firefighter. Line of duty deaths and injuries have encouraged departments to reflect on their current tactics, effects of flow path, and safety considerations for basement fires.

The ISFSI “Understanding and Fighting Basement Fires” 8-hour classroom curriculum addresses types of basement access, fire attack tactics, nozzles and appliances, and tactical considerations based on research and real life experience. The ISFSI partnership with UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute brings the research to the classroom and from the classroom to the streets

The ISFSI instructor for the program is Retired Captain Bill D’Agostino from the Burnsville Minnesota Fire Department. Bill is a phenomenal instructor.
