Our History
Established in 1948, the AFCA undertook the mission and began the task of promoting excellence in fire protection. Right from the beginning, members of the Association worked collectively to promote information sharing and joint problem solving to minimize the impacts of fires on Alberta’s communities.

A Celebration of Life for Retired Fire Chief Kelly Byam will be held Sunday January 29 at 2 pm.
Retired Fire Chief Kelly Byam passed away Sunday January 8 at the Bow Island Hospital with his family by his side. Kelly joined the joined the department in 1990 and became chief in 1995. He retired in 2020 due to his illness. Kelly also was one of the early members to become a primary care paramedic and made a career of it working for AHS as well as being our chief. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Please keep his family in your prayers.
