This course is available to members of recognized emergency services organizations. This course is being held over four consecutive days at the Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre; attendance to all 4 days is mandatory. The course will run from 0800-1700 each day with 45 minutes for lunch. Lunches are provided as part of the course fee. The course is certified through the Fire Department Safety Officers Association. Students will be required to purchase their own textbook: Fire Department Incident Safety Officer 3rd Edition from Jones & Bartlett. The textbook is available from the Alberta Fire Chief’s Association bookstore.
Prerequisites: The Fire Department Safety Officers Association requires NFPA 1021 Level I Fire Officer for ProBoard certification.
Tuition includes the cost of the exam, certificate, and lunches each day. A 50% deposit is required to reserve a seat in the course.
Deposits are non-refundable if cancelled within two weeks of the start date.
Some elements of training are physically demanding. If the supervisor or the applicant has any concerns about the applicant’s ability to
perform strenuous activities, both with and without wearing breathing apparatus and personal protective equipment weighing at least
27kg. You must contact the Training Officer, as noted below, to provide additional relevant information when submitting the
application form. Students participating in strenuous physical activity for greater than 60 minutes will be required to pass a vital sign
screening prior to commencing training.
All students are responsible for bringing applicable PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, fire-resistant coveralls, turnout gear, SCBA, and work gloves. All PPE must be compliant with its respective safety standards, such as CSA and NFPA 1971, and comply with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and Code.
