Lieutenant – Casual Position
Kananaskis Emergency Services is seeking a highly motivated team player to fill this position.
Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Lieutenant will fill in for full-time officer vacancies as they arise. The Lieutenant is responsible on a relief basis for all fire/rescue operations, training and operational assignments as provided from the Kananaskis Emergency Services Centre (KESC). This will include emergency and non-emergency operations related to structural fire suppression, vehicle rescue, emergency medical services, structural rescue, hazardous material interventions, wildland/urban interface fire suppression and support for technical rescue operations. Completion of fire prevention and public education activities as required and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and facilities to ensure the readiness of emergency response equipment.
Training and supervision of the Paid on-call Firefighter staff represents a significant portion of work in this position. While on duty, the Lieutenant is expected to deliver instruction for regularly scheduled training sessions, lead on-shift training with staff, provide appropriate supervision and oversight of members under their command and ensure the safety and well-being of all members.
Additionally, the Fire Officer provides after-hours emergency call answering and dispatching for Alberta Parks Kananaskis Dispatch. Duties include emergency call answering/processing, notification to response agencies (RCMP, EMS, Conservation Officers, Public Safety Specialists, etc.), coordination and dispatching of resources, radio communications, reporting and documentation. Dispatch specific training will be provided as part of on-boarding.
