Changes in the Fireworks Operator Certification Program.

For those Fire Service Members that approve Fireworks Displays and Special Effect Pyrotechnics event for your municipality, Pyrotechnics/Fireworks, Explosives, Regulatory and Business Services Branch wanted to update you on some of the changes in the Fireworks Operator Certification Program.

As of January 1, 2022, they will be issuing digital fireworks operator certificates instead of the plastic cards.  These certificates will be in a locked pdf file format and they will no longer have a photo on them.  Please see attached a copy so you can see what they look like.   If you have any concerns you can always ask them for a piece of identification, issued by the Government of Canada or a provincial, municipal or foreign government, that bears their photograph.

Please note that someone may still have a plastic card and this is acceptable as long as it is not expired.

If you have any questions regarding the validity of a fireworks operator certificate, please don’t hesitate to contact via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
