DESCRIPTION:This course utilizes both classroom lectures and field exercises to meet the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 470 Hazardous Materials / WMD Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications. \nThis course focuses on the recognition of a hazardous materials emergency\, personnel safety\, hazard assessment\, and the notification of the emergency response team using safe\, practical\, defensive actions. \nTopics Include \n• Analyze the incident\n• Detect the presence of Hazardous Materials (HazMat)/Weapons of Mass Destruction\n(WMD)\n• Determine scope of the problem\n• Plan a response\n• Capabilities of Operations-level personnel\n• Implement the response\n• Establish Control Zones/Emergency Decontamination/Communications\n• Implement protective actions\n• Perform operations level tasks\n• Evaluate Progress \nLocation: Mayerthorpe Fire Training Center 4814 – 42 Ave \nDates:  March 29\, 30 and April 5\, 6 \nTesting: Awareness level written exam April 6th along with complete Practical Skills evaluation.\nOperations level written exam April 16th. \nPrerequisites for Course: No NFPA prerequisites\, Completion of County Fire 101 or equivalent program\, all required LSAC online learning. \nRegister through Eventbrite OR email the registration form to aschroeder@mayerthorpefire.ca\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nFor a sharable flyer\, please use the following link: \nNFPA 470 Awareness and Operations 2025 – MTP (1)
