The Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment (CIPSRT) has a variety of upcoming course offerings with spots available. These opportunities are offered FREE of charge for Public Safety Personnel (PSP).
As part of the National Research Consortium, CIPSRT serves as the Knowledge Exchange Hub for knowledge synthesis, translation and tools based on research evidence. CIPSRT works to improve the lifetime health and well-being for people directly or indirectly related to public safety personnel (PSP), including front line personnel, support personnel, families of personnel, and retired personnel.
Course offerings:
Treatment 101: Treatment 101 for public safety personnel is a five-module online course designed to support Public safety personnel (PSP) in making informed decisions about their mental health care. This course discusses topics such as insurance coverage, types of service providers, relevant terms and definitions, evidence-based treatment options, tips for choosing a mental health service provider, and what to expect at the first appointment with a mental health care professional.

Sleep 101: Given the increased understanding of the importance of sleep to both mental and physical health, CIPSRT has collaborated with Dr. Colleen Carney, Director of the Sleep and Depression Laboratory at Toronto Metropolitan University, to develop a 4-session sleep course for PSP.

ER2MR: Through the Electronic (online) Road to Mental Readiness program, PSP gain key skills including tactical breathing, mental rehearsal, goal setting, self-talk, and attention control. The training additionally includes generic mental health education, including early identification of signs of mental illness; adaptive coping strategies to respond to the risks inherent in these occupations; the importance of peer and leadership support; appropriate leader actions; barriers to seeking mental health care, including stigma; and outlining procedures for assessing mental health resources. These skills and tools directly serve to enhance the overall mental well-being of participating PSP and their peers.
