The Town of Stony Plain is currently seeking a permanent full time, experienced and dedicated Deputy Fire Chief, who lives the values of Community, Commitment, and Compassion. The Stony Plain Fire Department is a progressive, composite department consisting of 7 Career and 44 Paid On Call (POC) Firefighters. Responding to over 500 calls per year, the team provides highly technical and diverse services; delivering the best possible fire protection and safety service, helping to minimize the loss of life and property through education, prevention, preparedness, and response.

Reporting to the Fire Chief, key responsibilities of this position will include assisting in administration, operation and supervision of staff in emergency and non-emergency situations, coordinating and implementing department policies, fire prevention programs and all aspects of fire training. This position will be involved in active response as well as overseeing equipment and facility maintenance, investigations and inspections, supervision of full time and paid on call firefighters, and will take a lead role in the emergency management program.

The ideal candidate for this position will have worked as a POC Firefighter and will possess experience leading both POC and Career Firefighters. The incumbent will have demonstrated experience in fire suppression and rescue with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Firefighter and Senior Officer and will hold the following certifications (or equivalent):

• Alberta Class 3 license with Q endorsement                     Emergency Management
• NFPA 1001 level 2                                                             Blue Card Command
• NFPA 1041 Level 2                                                            ICS 300
• 1002 Pump and Aerial Operator                                        Alberta Fire SCO B2 & C1
• NFPA 1021 Level 2                                                            NFPA 1521 Safety Officer

This role is ideally suited for an individual possessing sound judgement, leadership, trust, honesty, commitment and decision-making ability along with a high level of professionalism, diplomacy, and above average communication skills. Successful applicants must be physically fit with the ability to perform all firefighting tasks under all conditions.

The Town offers an excellent 100% employer paid Health Benefit package and membership under the Local Authorities Pension Plan. Based on a 40 hour work week, the salary range for this position is $92,824 - $118,098 per annum. The successful candidates must also be willing to participate in the after-hour training sessions, emergency responses and “on call” scheduled on a rotational basis. It is preferred the successful candidate relocate and/or reside within the Town limits.
