Two (2) Permanent Full-time Positions
The City of Fort Saskatchewan has an exciting opportunity for a confident, motivated, and qualified professional to join our Fire Services Team. Reporting to the Assistant Fire Chief, the Captain is a leader within a Watch and leads and manages a crew of Engineers and Firefighters that are assigned to a single fire apparatus. The Captain is responsible for the readiness and professional delivery of services and duties to the community.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Responsible to lead and ensure the accurate and efficient completion of all assigned Crew duties, assignments, tasks, activities or projects.
Lead, supervise and ensure effective Watch competency training programs/drills, mentorship and professional development in accordance with department and National Fire Protection Association standards.
In a leadership capacity with highly proficient technical and supervisory skills, respond to and be on standby for emergency incidents in accordance to department policies, directives and protocols.
Facilitate after action reviews and critical incident stress debriefings for routine and/or moderate size incidents.
Post-secondary education in emergency services

o NFPA 1001 - Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, Level 1 and Level 2
o NFPA 1002 - Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, Driver/Operator / Pump Operator / Aerial Operator

o NFPA 1021 - Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, Level 1

The Captain position requires a minimum of 4 years experience working in an emergency services field, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role. Knowledge and understanding of emergency operations, fire apparatus operations, legislative regulations, and safety issues within the community is essential. The successful incumbent will have knowledge and experience in media relations, strong team building skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor and coach staff.

A current 5 year drivers abstract will be required at the time of interview. The City of Fort Saskatchewan offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.
Rate of Pay: $53.05 per hour
Hours of Work: 2184 Annual Hours; Rotating Day and Night Shift Schedule
