Regional Deputy Fire Chief

The Regional Deputy Chief (RDC) is the assistant Chief Administrative Officer of the Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) and will assist in providing effective advice and support to the Regional Fire Chief (RFC) in maintaining the efficient and effective management of the BRFA. The RDC will display sound management practices and experience that will positively impact the success of the Authority’s strategies and policies. The RDC will provide effective advice and support to the RFC in the development and implementation of policies and strategies that address the needs of the BRFA.

Responsibilities include:
 Provides active leadership and manages performance within the three emergency divisions of the BRFA to ensure effective working relations and operations of BRFA emergency services.
 Management and leadership of emergency responses which may include responding or establishing command of fire and other emergencies as established by the Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG).
 Maintains knowledge of current strategic and tactical methods of emergency response for both Fire and EMS.
 Coordinates budgets and determines appropriate training for firefighters, PSAP communicators and EMS personnel.
 Maintain an operational knowledge of EMS delivery, including Alberta Health Services and Alberta Health framework.
 Oversees fire prevention and participates in investigations, inspections and prevention & education programs as necessary.
 Maintain an operational knowledge of PSAP functionality, including the IT framework for 911 call-taking and emergency service dispatching for both fire and community peace officers.
 The duties and responsibilities outlined above are representative, but not all-inclusive.

Education and Experience:
 A university degree in an Emergency Service or Business related field accompanied by knowledge of Local Government Administration.
 A minimum of ten years of progressively more responsibility in a municipal setting or equivalent municipal experience.
 Enhanced security clearance and current driver’s abstract will be required.
