Director of Protective Services/Fire Chief

The Town of Wainwright, a vibrant community of 6,300 is seeking a qualified and highly motivated individual for the full-time management position of Director of Protective Services. Reporting to the CAO, Director of Protective Services/Fire Chief is responsible for directing the Fire Department, supervising municipal bylaw enforcement, coordinating with the local RCMP detachment and preparing the town’s disaster/emergency plan.

This individual should possess a unique combination of fire services related skills including suppression, prevention, training, equipment maintenance, public relations and have several years experience at the Senior Officer level. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of general fire department operations, strong leadership, communication, administrative and management skills. Knowledge/experience in bylaw enforcement would be an asset.

The ideal candidate for this position should have the following qualifications:
- NFPA 1001 Level 2 Professional Firefighter
- NFPA 1021 Level 2 Fire Officer Professional
- NFPA 1041 Level 2 Fire Service Instructor
- Safety Codes Officer – Fire Level 2 Inspector and Level 2 Investigator
