Deputy Fire Chief

As Canada’s 7th fastest growing community ideally situated 3.5 km south of the City of Edmonton boundary on 50th Street south, the Town of Beaumont is recruiting for the challenging position of Deputy Fire Chief with the Beaumont Fire Department.

Reporting to the Fire Chief, this position will assist the Fire Chief in the strategic planning and goal setting for the department as well as provide leadership and direction in the management, implementation and administration of the Fire Department training programs. The successful candidate will support and coordinate the safety goals and policies of the Town, ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety, and will act as an advisor to the Health and Safety Committee. This position will also respond to emergency calls as required.

The ideal candidate must have a High School Diploma, as well as NFPA 1001 Level II; NFPA 1021 Level II; NFPA 1041 Level II; ICS 300; Basic Safety Codes Officer (Fire) or certification to Safety Codes Officer Fire Inspector Level 1; and Class 5 driver’s license with “Q” endorsement. Candidates must have advanced knowledge of fire suppression and prevention principals, procedures, techniques and equipment. Candidates must have a current Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), or equivalent certification with the ability to achieve designation with the Alberta College of Paramedics. The successful candidate must have a minimum of five years experience with a fire department, ideally with experience in the management of fire department training programs, previous supervisory experience and experience working with Fire Pro 2.

The ideal candidate will be skilled in coordinating the activities and training of a large, diverse group of volunteers. It is essential that candidates demonstrate solid written and oral communication and public relations skills; and possess the ability to support, lead, and coach staff and volunteers to a maximize their time, talents and resources for effective and efficient service to external and internal customers. Candidates must have proficient skills in MS Office Suite.

The successful candidate for this position must live within the Town of Beaumont town limits.

This position offers a minimum starting salary of $77,938. This position has a 40-hour work week. To accommodate training requirements and schedules, evening and/or weekend work will be required.
